-  Sunday March 22

Dear parish family and friends,

Unfortunately, our attempt this week to record and play the entire worship service was thwarted. The file is too big. Perhaps next week we can figure out a different way! In the meantime, listed below are the links to the video of my sermon and the corresponding text.

It was wonderful and joyful to see so many of you this morning! Enjoy your Sunday! I'm ready for a nap!

God bless and keep you well,

A message from our Rector and Vicar

 - Rev. Lisa Busby

Greetings, River Parishes family!

My dear ones, I continue to pray for a Blessed and Holy Lent, no matter where we are on the journey (or geographically). As we enter this season of the liturgical year, it seems important to acknowledge the tender and beautiful opportunities to be discovered during Lent.

Lent often gets a bad reputation, I think. We associate it with fasting from temptations, we focus on our sinful nature and need for repentance, and we remind ourselves of our mortality and human-ness as we journey with Jesus towards the cross. While all of this is certainly true and an important aspect of Lent, there is also much to be discovered in simplicity, as we reorient ourselves towards the quiet stillness, where our hearts and wills are returned to God. Lent is a time where we intentionally center ourselves in the divine and re-experience the beauty and tenderness found in the sacred.

Personally, I find great joy and peace in the quiet, and the simple stillness of God. It reassures and strengthens me. It renews my faith and refreshes my soul. And, I pray that you also will discover or re-discover some aspect of the sacred during this holy and blessed Lenten season.

I invite you to join our Lenten journey through the book: "Love Big, Be Well: Letters to a Small Town Church" by Winn Collier. Throughout the next few weeks, we will gather on Thursday evenings (alternating between Christ Church and St. John's) at 5:30 pm for soup and discussion. There are still a few books available, if you would like to purchase a copy.

There are also many other opportunities to observe a Holy Lenten season. Resources available from the Diocese of CNY can be found here: Your favorite Lenten resources for 2020; and for resources from the national Episcopal Church, click here: episcopalchurch.org

Also, a reminder from your Priest: know that I am available (cell - (607) 745-5661) for prayer, a visit, a listening ear, and/or a blessing. Your journey matters to me, and I am honored and blessed to share it and accompany you along the way.

Love big and be well,

 - Rev Lisa+

As many of you are aware, ALL in-person worship, meetings and gatherings have now been suspended for the entire Episcopal Diocese of Central New York. (Click here to read Bishop DeDe's latest statement). As schools close and our world rapidly changes (click here for updated information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), I want you to have access to as much spiritual support and care that I can possibly offer. God is with us.

Discussions during Lent will focus on the book, "Love Big, Be Well:

A call for sharing!

The Soup and Stories program began on January 8. During Lent, we will use that time block (Thursday evenings 5:30-7pm) for our Lenten program.

In the interim, we would love to hear your feedback about your experience of the Soup and Story program.

Please email:
christchurchclayton@gmail.com to share your thoughts, ideas and experiences.

The following was received from John Stone, a new member of St. John's:

"My wife and absolutely love the soup and story fellowship.  The stories shared cover a large spectrum of people’s lives and it is a joy to listen, laugh and learn. While we are not new to Northern New York, we are new residents to the village of Cape Vincent. Establishing roots and a sense of place is important and we find this fellowship provides a wonderful way to meet, understand and share with our new neighbors and friends.
With Gratitude, John Stone"

On December 14, 2019,The Rev. Jack Andersen celebrated 56 years of service in ordained ministry!
